Spotify HiFi will begin rolling out later this year to Premium subscribers in select markets. We hoped the streaming giant might launch HiFi as a Christmas surprise (but that didn’t happen), and it looks like the company may fail to. Nine months later, 2021 is about to end, and there’s no word on Spotify HiFi’s availability. Producers everywhere will agree, this option is a necessary evolution in streaming. During its announcement, Spotify promised to roll out Spotify HiFi in select markets later this year. Now that higher resolutions are becoming available for streaming, the water is getting muddier again. For years, the highest resolution audio that many lossless streaming services like Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz offered was CD-quality. Spotify HiFi will deliver music in CD-quality, lossless audio format to your device and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers, which means fans will be able to experience more depth and clarity while enjoying their favorite tracks. The term 'lossless' refers to a digital audio file that has the sample rate as a CD (16-bit/44.1 kHz). With Spotify HiFi, listeners will get the best possible result as their digital music library plays out exactly the way their favorite artists intended. Taking on competitors like Tidal and Amazon Music, go-to music streaming service Spotify will soon offer a lossless streaming tier. If you upgrade, like I did with the Premium trial, you’re getting high-quality files coming in at 320kbps. Normal quality files from Spotify come in at 160 kbps, or 96 kbps on mobile devices.
